The Republic-Times Team of the Week is the Valmeyer Lakers of the Mon-Clair League. After placing second in the regular season, the Lakers downed the Belleville Rockies on Aug. 3 and then the Waterloo Buds in two games on Aug. 9 to capture the playoffs championship at Borsch Park. Lakers pitching allowed just one run in the postseason. Valmeyer’s manager is Mike McCarthy, with Brad Juelfs serving as assistant coach.
