Millstadt Fire Department and EMS personnel were called to 1732 Kropp west of Millstadt for a report of two males trapped under a side-by-side, multi-passenger ATV around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday. Columbia EMS was also requested to assist at the scene. Millstadt police and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department also responded.

Both men were conscious and breathing, but one reportedly had sustained head trauma.

Police said the driver of the side-by-side, Michael Sternau, 59, stated he was attempting to negotiate a turn on a grade and the ATV flipped over. Sternau’s passenger was 71-year-old Roger Guebert.

Both men were transported to area hospitals.
