Thelma Mae Shields

Thelma Mae Shields (nee Schmieg), 83, of Waterloo, died July 13, 2015, in Waterloo.

She was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Fults, daughter of the late Charles and Lena Schmieg (nee Guttmann).

Thelma was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She retired as a CNA from the Monroe County Nursing Home.

She is survived by her children Dennis Shields, Diane Eckrich, Denise (Robert) Eichelmann, David Shields, Debbie (Charlie) Siedle, Dana (Rick) Grossmann and Dawn (Greg) Gregory; grandchildren Jeremy Ries (fiancée Katie Schwarze), Kellie (Joe) Killian, Stephanie (Gary) Francis, Travis (Jenny) Eichelmann, Stacy (Jeff) Davis, Lindsay (Tom Gallagher) Shields, Summer Shields,  Angie (Kevin) Augustine, Jason Siedle, Bradley (fiancée Melissa Schaller) Siedle, Allen (fiancée Ashley Rayfield) Siedle, Jacob (fiancée Alyssa Francis) Siedle, Justin Siedle, Eric Grossmann, Sarah Yarbrough (John Rayfield), Emily Grossmann, Joshua (Jessi)  Gregory and Jessica (fiancé Kyle Kueker) Gregory; along with numerous great-grandchildren; sisters Fern (Fred) Kinzinger and Charlene Waligorski; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond Shields, and brothers Clinton (LaVerne)  and Norman Schmieg.

Visitation will be July 15, from 4 to 8 p.m., and July 16, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated July 16, at 10 a.m., at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Rev. Sebastian Ukoh, C.M. officiating.

Interment will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo.

As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Activity Fund or Heartland Hospice.
