Richard W. Stumpf | Obituary

Richard W. Stumpf, a pillar of faith, a man known for his unwavering reliability, work ethic and sharp wit, passed away on April 9, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of service, strength, support and a playful sense of humor that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on March 29, 1957, in Red Bud, Richard was the son of Warren and Pauline Stumpf and brother of Linda Laskowski. In 1980, he married his forever love Paula Ramsey, and together they built a fantastical life. Richard’s dedication to his family shone brightly in his love for Paula and their entire family. His three children: Josh, married to Erin, and their sons Caden, Owen and Jackson; Hannah, married and widowed to Seth, and their son Benji; and Benjamin, married to Maggie, and their son Percy.

Richard proudly served the St. Louis County Police Department for 30 years as a patrolman, detective and background investigator. Beyond the badge, Richard found joy in life’s everyday moments like spending time with his family and friends.  He swung a big bat during softball games, roared with the Cardinal crowd, reveled in camping adventures, cared for cats and delved into God’s word. Recently, he had been pouring his energy into helping Benjamin with his organic farming.

He will be forever remembered for his faith, kindness, strength and humor. He was a man who touched the lives of countless people.
