Mary Anne E. Wittenauer | Obituary

Mary Anne E. Wittenauer, 83, of Waterloo and formerly of Collinsville, died Dec. 6, 2014 in Waterloo.

She was born April 10, 1931 in Hecker, daughter of the late Walter F. and Frances A. Wittenauer, nee Kreher.

Mary Anne attended St. Augustine Grade School and St. Augustine Church. She was a graduate of Waterloo High School class of 1949, received her master’s degree in education from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne in 1968, and received a certification in religious education from Ancilla Domini College in Donaldson, Ind. in 1970.

She has taught grades one through eight in both public and parochial schools, besides teaching the underprivileged in migrant camps and in the streets of Baltimore. She has been missioned to teach in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, and has taught at St. Anthony’s in Beckemeyer, at St. Mary’s in Trenton, Edwardsville, and in Chicago. During her early years in the religious order, her name was Sr. Mary Dominica, but later she was permitted to use her baptismal name.

She was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters Clem Wittenauer, Rita Marie Kelley, Walter (Millie) Wittenauer, Frances (Butch) Meyer, Rosie (Everette) Livingston; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Delbert P. Wittenauer, sister (in infancy) Rose Marie Wittenauer.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 and 8 to 9:45 a.m. Dec. 12 at Quernheim Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at St. Augustine Church in Hecker.

Interment will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery in Hecker.
