Gus P. Herderhorst | Obituary
Gus P. Herderhorst, 79, of Columbia, formerly of Cahokia, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 1, 1935 in East St. Louis, son of the late Gus and Eileen Herderhorst, nee Wood.
Gus was a retired computer operator from Alton and Southern Railroad. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Emeth Lodge 1030 A.F. & A.M. of Cahokia, Ainad Temple Shrine of East St. Louis, and the Legion of Honor. He was a former athlete in the area and played softball and baseball and enjoy bowling in many different leagues and was an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Herderhorst, Sr.; his mother and step-father, Eileen, nee Wood and Nicholas Adele; two brothers, Edward and Donald Herderhorst; and a sister, Janet Goss.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Margie Herderhorst, nee Phillips; his children, Ray (Eliene) Herderhorst of Cahokia, Dave (Tammy) Herderhorst of Waterloo, and Susan (Steve) Krekorian of Waterloo; a sister, Carol (Robert “Bud”) Smith of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Trevor (Tiffany) Herderhorst, Courtney (Noah) Wetters, Alexandra Krekorian, Taylor Kerkorian and Danielle Herderhorst; four great grandchildren, Chase, Natalie, Olivia and Payton. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia. A Legion of Honor Walk Through Service will take place at 6:45 p.m. followed by a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. August 25 at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
