Florence E. Metzger Lenauer

Florence E. Metzger Lenauer, nee Schmidt, 92, of Swansea, died March 31, 2014 in Belleville.

She was born Jan. 4, 1922 in Waterloo.

After her graduation from Waterloo High School in 1939, Florence worked as a secretary at Emerson Electric and Travelers Insurance in St. Louis. She later worked at Pet, Inc. until her retirement in 1978.

Mrs. Lenauer was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Belleville. She bowled on senior bowling leagues in Belleville and was a member of the Belleville Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Armin “Buddy” Metzger, who died in August 1957 at the age of 35; her second husband, Albert W. Lenauer, whom she married on Oct. 25, 1969, and who died Jan. 26, 2001; her parents, Otto and Bertha, nee Haberl, Schmidt; two sisters, Helen Becker and Audrey Reinhold; and brother Frank Schmidt.

Surviving are her daughter, Susan (Bill) Pelch of Belleville; her son Robert “Bob” (Sheryl) Metzger of Waterloo, grandchildren Clay (Debbie) Metzger, Aaron (Karla) Metzger, Collin (Kathy) Metzger, Jeff Pelch (Will Abbott) and Garrett Pelch (Rachel Herbert); nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.

A reception will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. May 17 at Queen of Peace in Belleville.

A funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. May 17 at the church.

Florence donated her body to Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
