Five WHS wrestlers make sectional

The Waterloo High School wrestling team had a strong showing in the IHSA Class 2A Triad Regional on Saturday, sending five grapplers to the sectional round.

As a team, Waterloo placed third in the regional behind wrestling powerhouse Cahokia and MVC nemesis Triad.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Austin Stewart in the 152-pound weight class. He  defeated Kai Broudoss-Cross of Mascoutah, 11-

7, to win an individual regional title. Stewart’s first place regional showing follows his Mississippi Valley Conference championship obtained the weekend before.

Joining Stewart at this weekend’s Mahomet-Seymour Sectional will be teammates Cory Cissell, Cody Cissell, Dalton Viglasky and Kory Schaefer.

Cory Cissell placed second at 126 pounds; Cody Cissell placed third at 132 pounds; Viglasky placed second at 138 pounds and Schaefer placed second at 182 pounds.
