Fire destroys pole barn near East Carondelet

Multiple fire departments battled a blaze that destroyed a large pole barn in the 1300 block of Davis Street Ferry Road near East Carondelet shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday.

The pole barn was a total loss, along with all of its contents.

The initial call came in at 10:07 p.m. and when crews arrived, the approximately 24-foot-by-24-foot shed and its contents were fully involved.

Quick action by those first on scene were able to save a camper trailer parked just a few feet from the affected building.

Due to the unusual circumstances of departments from all over St. Clair, Monroe and Madison counties being shuffled around and covering different districts due to a large warehouse fire in Sauget earlier in the day, in addition to Dupo, Prairie du Pont was assisted by Columbia, Waterloo and Smithton fire departments providing water supply and manpower.

After extinguishing the blaze and an extensive cleaning of equipment back at the firehouse, Dupo firefighters wrapped up about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
