Delma E. Schulmeister

Delma E. Schulmeister, nee Prange, 95, of Fults, died March 22, 2014 in Waterloo.

She was born Jan. 24, 1919 in Fults, daughter of the late John Paul and Bertha Elizabeth (Sprankel) Prange.

Delma grew up on a farm in Fults. After moving to Waterloo, she waitressed at the Bee-Hive Restaurant, was telephone operator for Harrisonville Telephone Company and then worked at Schulmeister Bakery for many years. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. She was affectionately known to her family as “Grandma Shoe.”

She is survived by children Carol (Larry) Schmalenberger and Robert (Tara) Schulmeister; grandchildren Jon Schmalenberger (dear friend Lisa May), Amy (Ryan) Hopfinger, Erin (Steve) Hoffmann and Lauren Schulmeister (fiance Colby Jensen); great-grandchildren Logan Hopfinger, Austin Hopfinger, Adler Hoffmann and Ryan Hoffmann; niece Sonja Freeman; nephews H.R. (Sally) Gentsch and Paul Prange; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of nearly 50 years F. Robert Schulmeister, daughter Brenda C. Schulmeister and brother Alvin Prange.

At Delma’s request, a private service will take place March 27 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Interment will follow at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
