Charles T. Wiegreffe | Obituary

Charles T. Wiegreffe, 82, of Waterloo, died March 16, 2016, at Columbia Convalescent Center in Columbia.

He was born April 11, 1933, in East Saint Louis, son of the late Charles T. and Velma Wiegreffe Sr. (nee VanVliet).

Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean War and worked in the automotive field until he retired in 1998.

He was a member of the St. Clair County Angler’s Club, loved riding his scooter, and enjoyed canoeing and camping with various youth organizations.

He also enjoyed playing baseball and he was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Joan M. Wiegreffe (nee Meyer) of Waterloo and daughter Barbara A. (Darryl) Gerstenecker of Columbia. He was proud grandpa to Kara (fiancé Joe Schmid) Gerstenecker and Alyssa Gerstenecker. He is also survived by his sister Mildred “Tootie” (Bob) Mehring of Waterloo; sister-in-law Nancy Baldus of Belleville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Milton and Dorothy Meyer (nee Germain); and brother-in-law Donald Baldus.

Visitation is March 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville.

Funeral services will be March 19, at 1 p.m., at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Merlyn Lawrence officiating.

A private interment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
