Burton H. Stumpf | Obituary

Burton H. Stumpf, 96, of Waterloo, died Sept. 21, 2014 in Waterloo.

He was born Sept. 10, 1918 in Columbia, son of the late Edwin W. and Ida P. Stumpf, nee Pieper.

He worked as an agency manager for Country Financial in Waterloo for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He then operated a tool sharpening business for more than 35 years. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army. Burton enjoyed reading, hunting, playing cards and especially tending to his garden.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Stumpf, nee Faus; children David (Jean) Stumpf, Diane Stumpf and Arthur Sutton; grandchildren Peter Sutton, Sara Sutton, Katie (Ben) Hart; great-grandchildren Lauren and Alex Hart; along with a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Warren Stumpf and sister Irma Stumpf.

Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

A funeral service will take place at noon Sept. 27 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.

Memorials may be made to the Monroe County Farm Bureau Foundation or the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
