Westerheides celebrate 60th anniversary

William V. “Bill” and Mary Jean Westerheide of Waterloo celebrated their 60th anniversary on Aug. 22, with a family Mass at St. Peter and Paul Church in Waterloo, followed by a dinner at the LM Bries Restaurant, as well as an October trip to Florida.

Bill Westerheide and the former Mary Jean Arnold were married Sept. 17, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Church in Centreville by Msgr. Charles Nebel.

Bill is a retired sheet metal contractor in Collinsville and East St. Louis and is active with the Waterloo American Legion and Mystic Oak Golf. He is also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mary Jean is a homemaker and former employee of Ralston Purina and is active with a Mystic Oak Golf League, Mary and Martha Sodality, and STA Alumni class of 1952.

The couple have six children: William V. (Cathy) Westerheide Jr., of Waterloo, Michael G. (Karen) Westerheide of Millstadt, Mary Beth (Mark) Cyliax of St. Louis, JoAnn (Ned) Lane of Columbia, Sharon Cooper of Maryville, and Kevin J. (Colleen) Westerheide.

They have 14 grandchildren: Lauren (Reggie) Ardis, Michelle Westerheide, Brian (Kourtnie) Westerheide, Scott Elizabeth and Michael Cyliax, Kyle, Cory and Paige Lane, Danielle and Jacob Cooper, Ben Jamin Westerheide, Trevor and Jordan Czerniejewski.

They have four great-grandchildren: Kimberly Presson, Devon Ardis, Sam Westerheide and Chris Musk.
