Richard H. Hayes

Richard H. Hayes, 83, of Waterloo, died Dec. 8, 2012, in St. Louis.

He was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Raton, N.M., son of the late William H. and Margaret (nee McMurrough) Hayes.

Hayes grew up in Springer, N.M., and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the University of New Mexico, and operated a cattle ranch in Oklahoma. He was retired from the Federal Highway Administration, and was a member of the Waterloo Quadrilles Square Dance Club (former president).

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (nee Ferris) Hayes; children Greg (Rene) Hayes and Stephanie Hayes; grandchildren Kaitlin Hayes and Matt Hayes; brother James Hayes; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation is set for 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday, Dec. 15, at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.

Funeral services take place 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Siteman Cancer Center (Melanoma Research).
