Dorothy E. Stemler | Obituary

Dorothy E. Stemler (nee Schroeder), 89, of Waterloo, died April 27, 2013, in St. Louis.

She was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Columbia, daughter of the late Herman and Bertha Schroeder (nee Rey).

She was married to the late Walter E. Stemler.

Mrs. Stemler was a member of Monroe County HEA for 60 years, Monroe County Farm Bureau, Monroe County Fair Association, Holstein Association, and St. Paul United Church of Christ, Waterloo. She was a past member of Mid America Dairymen.

She was also the co-founder and director of Bluffside Educational Foundation for Valmeyer Community School.

After the Flood of 1993, she and her husband sold 500  acres for the relocation of New Valmeyer. She enjoyed doing things for the benefit of the community.

Survivors include her children Patricia (Walter Jr.) Wetzel, Bettylou (Robert) McNiel, and Kenneth (Luann) Stemler; grandchildren Julie (Brian) Branson, Ronald (Maria Fernanda) Wetzel, Colleen Stemler, Aaron McNiel, Nicole (Brian) O’Connell, Jason (Paula) McNiel, and Kimberly McNiel; and great-grandchildren Kendra and Trent McNiel, Alexis and Kallie O’Connell, Valerie and Jessica Branson, and Ela Fernanda Wetzel; along with nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home, and May 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., at St. John United Church of Christ, Valmeyer.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at the church, Pastor Ivan Horn officiating.

Interment will follow at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery, Waterloo.

Memorials may be made to Bluffside Educational Foundation (Valmeyer School).
