Boys basketball postseason assignments released
Boys high school basketball postseason action tips off in Illinois next week, with many of the local teams playing right here in the area.
Both Waterloo and Valmeyer host the first round of post season play at the Regional level. Teams will then compete in the Okawville, Greenville, West Frankfort and Masctouah sectionals if they advance.
1A and 2A games began Feb. 18, with the seeding as follows: Valmeyer Regional 1. Gibault, 2. Okawville, 3. New Athens, 4. Lebanon, 5. Lovejoy, 6. Marissa, 7. Valmeyer; Breese (Central) Regional 1. Carlyle 2. Breese Central, 3. Breese Mater Dei, 4. Trenton (Wesclin), 5. Dupo; Sparta Regional 1. Nashville, 2. Pinckneyville, 3. Sparta, 4. DuQuoin, 5. Red Bud.
The following Monday the first round of post-season play will begin for 3A and 4A schools with the seeding as follows: Waterloo Regional 1. Cahokia, 2. Belleville (Althoff Catholic), 3. Waterloo, 4. Columbia, 5. Freeburg.
