Adele H. Valentine

Adele H. Valentine (nee Horn), 83, of Waterloo, died July 20, 2013, in Waterloo.

She was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Red Bud, daughter of the late John G. and Louise M. Horn (nee Nottmeier).

She was married to Erdmann Valentine; he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Valentine graduated from Waterloo High School and Brown’s Business and Secretarial College in St. Louis. She worked as a secretary for the Formica Corporation Division of American Cyanamid.

She was a charter and lifetime member, as well as past president, of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and she volunteered in the outpatient department of the hospital.

She was a life member of Deaconess Society and Red Bud Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

Mrs. Valentine was also a member of Monroe County Farm Bureau, Monroe County Home Extension, Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, and St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and taught Sunday School and Vacation Church School for 35 years.

Survivors include her son David Valentine; and grandchildren John and Alex Valentine; along with sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation is Thursday, July 25, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo; and July 26, from 9 to 10 a.m., at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Waterloo.

Funeral services will be July 26, at 10 a.m., at the church, Pastor Gary Proctor officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, American Heart Association, or St. Paul United Church of Christ.
