Waterloo police and fire personnel were assisted by Monroe County EMS in responding to a two-vehicle crash on Route 3 at Moore Street about 2:40 p.m. Thursday.

The vehicles involved were a 2015 Ford Escape driven by a 16-year-old Waterloo man and a 2012 Buick LaCrosse driven by Henry Spurgeon, 75, of Waterloo. Initial reports indicate the Ford was traveling west on Moore Street and was crossing over Route 3 when it was struck by the Buick, which was traveling south on Route 3.

The Ford Escape turned on its side as a result of the collision, coming to rest against a USPS mail truck that was stopped at the intersection.

Spurgeon was transported to Red Bud Regional Hospital for observation. No citations were issued.
