Shirley J. Phelps | Obituary

Shirley J. Phelps, 77, of Waterloo, died Sept. 5, 2014 in Belleville.

She was born March 3, 1937 in White Co., daughter of the late Lawrence Bell and Florence Flota.

Shirley loved her family, especially her great-granddaughters. She loved hiking, traveling, nature, reading and yard work. She especially liked to take road trips in her red Dodge Charger.

She is survived by children Steven (Tonia) Phelps, Vickie (John) Kaiser, Tommy (Johanne) Phelps; grandchildren Erin (Kyle) Griffith, Jennifer (Matt) Eckart, Michael Kaiser; great-grandchildren Maci Kaiser, Lauren Eckart, Emma Eckart; sisters Shelby Dunn, Donna Merlenbach, Janet (Alan) Easton; sister-in-law Mary Otten; brother-in-law Ralph Phelps, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eddie W. Phelps and brothers Edward and Kenneth Bell.

Visitation took place Sept. 9 and 10 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

A funeral service took place Sept. 10 at the funeral home.

Interment followed at Hecker City Cemetery in Hecker.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
