Residential break-in reported in Columbia

The Columbia Police Department is investigating a reported residential burglary that occurred Tuesday in the 1800 block of Clover Ridge, located off Gilmore Lake Road at the southern edge of town.

“The resident arrived home and found the front door had been forced open and property stolen from the house,” Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said.

The crime occurred between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Edwards said. An Illinois State Police investigator helped process the scene.

Police ask anyone who may have observed anything “out of the ordinary” in the area of the reported crime on Tuesday to call 281-5151.

This burglary comes in the wake of the weekend arrest of an 18-year-old Caseyville man and a juvenile for vehicle and home break-ins that occurred in Columbia around Christmas.
