Columbia Police

Feb. 16

Deon D. Kerby, 27, of Cahokia, was charged with obstructing justice in connection with a Jan. 25 incident for allegedly driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu “away from the stop where it was being towed following the arrest of the driver.” Kerby was also charged with criminal damage to property for allegedly driving the vehicle through a property in the 400 block of Burroughs Road.

Illinois State Police

Feb. 15

A hit-and-run crash occurred shortly before 7:45 p.m. on Route 158 near Limestone Lane between Columbia and Millstadt. The driver of a Honda sedan attempted to flee the scene after colliding with another vehicle and his vehicle was stopped by a Columbia police officer on Route 3 near Walgreens a short time later. The driver of this vehicle, Shawn J. Lannon, 45, of East St. Louis, was arrested for DUI, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, illegal parking on the roadway and driving while license suspended. No injuries were reported in the crash.

Feb. 20

A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred about 5:35 a.m. on I-255 southbound near Cahokia Heights. The interstate was closed from milepost 13 to milepost 10 in St. Clair County, with traffic detoured off I-255 to Route 157 and Route 3. The roadway was reopened to traffic shortly before 9:15 a.m. The person who died in the crash was identified by the St. Clair County coroner’s office as Charmane Gallant, 69, of O’Fallon.

MEGSI

Feb. 13

Montano P. German, 32, of Tuscon, Ariz., was charged with avoiding report/laundering of property (under $10,000) for allegedly transporting money with the intent of “drug trafficking, from which the criminally derived property was obtained.” He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl).

Millstadt Police

Feb. 13

Shortly before 8:30 p.m., Heather M. Schwartz, 49, of Belleville, was arrested in the 500 block of West Washington Street on two outstanding St. Clair County traffic warrants. She was also cited for driving while license suspended, suspended registration and no insurance.

Missouri Highway Patrol

Feb. 16

A 2014 Dodge Ram driven by Edward L. Faris, 72, of Waterloo, lost control in wintry weather conditions at about 11:15 a.m. on eastbound I-255 on the Jefferson Barracks Bridge, striking the retaining wall and sustaining extensive damage. Faris was transported by Mehlville (Mo.) Ambulance Service to St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Mo., for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Monroe County Sheriff

Feb. 12

Ronald E. Turner, 63,  of St. Louis, was arrested on an Illinois State Police warrant.

Feb. 16

Shortly before 2 p.m., a crash occurred on Route 156 at Oexner Lane. A 2013 Chevy Tahoe driven by Rebecca Riggs, 50, of Waterloo, was eastbound on Route 156 and lost control on the snow and ice covered roadway. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a creek embankment. Riggs was transported to Mercy Hospital South by Monroe County EMS. Two passengers in the vehicle, ages 21 and 13, refused medical transport.

Feb. 18

Sara J. Bohannon, 32, of Waterloo, was arrested shortly after 9:30 p.m. for DUI and speeding on Route 3 at Plaza Drive. 

Feb. 20

Jonathan T. Wachtel, 25, of Fayetteville, was arrested shortly after 2:10 a.m. for DUI on Route 156 at K Road. 

St. Clair County Sheriff

Feb. 19

A vehicle reported stolen from a property on Bluffside Road near Columbia a couple of months ago was reportedly recovered by police in Chicago. The case is under investigation. 

Waterloo Police 

Feb. 19

A 12-gauge shotgun was found by a resident late in the morning at Lions Park, which is located off Janice Drive and Lake Drive in the Sunset Acres subdivision. Waterloo Police Chief Dane Luke said the gun appeared to have been at the spot it was discovered for quite awhile, as it was rusty. The serial number on the firearm was clear and readable, the chief added, and a check of that number determined the gun had not been reported stolen.
