Columbia Police

Oct. 12

Lamont D. Read, 25, of Columbia, was arrested for pedestrian under the influence of drugs or alcohol shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 100 block of East Crestview Drive. Read was also charged with resisting a peace officer for allegedly refusing “to stand where instructed to do so after multiple verbal commands” from two CPD officers and attempting to “pull away while being searched, all in an attempt to defeat the arrest.”

Oct. 13

Kristin A. Harris, 43, of Columbia, was arrested on an in-state warrant at Columbia High School, 77 Veterans Parkway.  

Oct. 14

Matthew K. Fulton, 19, and Grant J. Oelzen, 18, both of Columbia, were cited for unlawful possession of alcohol shortly after 2 a.m. on Hillcastle Lane at Route 3. Fulton was also charged with suspended registration and no proof of insurance. 

Owen H. Mechler, 18, of Waterloo, was cited at 11:50 p.m. for unlawful possession of alcohol on Route 3 at Frontage Road. 

Oct. 15

Robert S. Alley, 40, of House Springs, Mo., was arrested for DUI at about 3 a.m. in the 500 block of North Main Street. He was also cited for no insurance. This was after the 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was driving struck the bumper of a parked car.

Illinois State Police

Oct. 6

Emergency personnel responded about 9:40 a.m. to a multi-vehicle crash on I-255 westbound just west of the Fish Lake Overpass near the Jefferson Barracks Bridge in Columbia. A Jeep Wrangler driven by 23-year-old Matthew E. Crouch of Coweta, Okla., was traveling in the left lane and a Ford Escape was in the second lane. For unknown reasons, the Jeep began to change lanes into the second lane and struck the Ford. Both units then ran off the roadway and ended up in the right ditch, with the Jeep overturning. No injuries were reported on scene. Crouch was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, the ISP said.

Monroe County Sheriff

Oct. 13

Tony G. Esker, 45, of Prairie du Rocher, was arrested on a warrant for felony violation of an order of protection (prior offense) after allegedly sending text messages to the person for whom the order was issued. Esker had been charged with violating an order of protection against the same person on Oct. 5.

KB Development Group LLC was cited for continuing to work on a residential construction project in Fults after a stop work order had been issued by the county. 

Oct. 14

Emergency personnel responded shortly after 12:40 p.m. to the intersection of Main Street and Juanita Street in Hecker after a 2019 Kia Soul driven by Dustin A. Lueth, 24, of Chester, struck the rear of a 2014 Ford Flex driven by Robert G. Weck, 60, of Columbia. The Kia was trailing behind the Ford traveling south on Main Street when the Ford slowed to turn right onto Juanita Street. The Kia struck the Ford on the rear passenger side bumper, causing the Ford to spin around and slide into a ditch, striking a stop sign. All parties, including a 59-year-old female passenger in the Ford, denied EMS but sustained minor injuries, police said.

Wesley A. Corey, 43, of Waterloo, was arrested for residential burglary in the 3000 block of Hanover Road.

Ernest C. Cowen Jr., 31, of St. Louis, was arrested on a Monroe County failure to appear warrant at Red Roof Liquor & Lottery, 301 Southport Drive.  

Waterloo Police

Sept. 29

Anthony D. Hanlin, 55, of Waterloo, was cited for inappropriate dumping of yard waste at 1400 Korte Lake Drive.

Oct. 9

Matthew A. Stanford, 25, of Waterloo, was charged with unlawful restraint, interfering with a domestic violence report and domestic battery for allegedly refusing to let the female victim out of a laundry room at his home, grabbing her by the arm and “wrestling (a) phone out of her hand,” thereby preventing her to make a 911 call to report domestic violence. 

Oct. 17

Deborah A. McCarthey, 56, of Waterloo, was charged with retail theft/display merchandise in connection with an Oct. 6 incident at Oak Hill, 623 Hamacher Street.
