Police assist with threat against WHS

The Waterloo Police Department provided assistance to Waterloo school district officials following a recent threat made against Waterloo High School by a juvenile on social media.

The threat was not specific to any one person or group, Waterloo school superintendent Brian Charron told the Republic-Times.

“At no time did we feel there was a credible threat to the safety of students or staff,” Charron said. “We did issue a notice to parents so they would know that we were aware, were addressing the situation, and that we determined that the threat was not credible.”

The police department was contacted by school administrators about the threat on Thursday, Waterloo Deputy Police Chief Jeff Prosise said.

“Waterloo school officials identified the juvenile and the threat made,” Prosise said. “The case is still being investigated at this time.”

WPD officers displayed an extra presence at the school on Monday morning as a precaution, and also to “provide an additional sense of safety,” Charron said.

“There was no disruption to the learning environment,” he assured.
