Piranhas swim past Greenville

The Waterloo Piranhas summer swim team delivered a powerful performance at its June 18 meet in Greenville, securing a decisive victory with a combined score of 313-101 before storms brought the competition to an early end.

Highlights included strong relay wins across all age groups and standout individual performances from Everett Darr, 10, and Violet Ebeler, 8, both earning top finishes in multiple events including individual medley and freestyle.

Claire Wiemerslage, 12, impressed with wins in the backstroke and freestyle, while younger swimmers like Addison Knysak, 6, and Annie Ebeler, 5, showed excellent form in the 25 meter races.

The Knysak siblings, Addison and James, both landed on the podium in several events.

The Piranhas’ scheduled meet with Sparta Country Club this past Saturday was canceled at the last minute – through no fault of Waterloo.

With the scorching heat that day, many swimmers (and parents) were happy to enjoy the much-needed break.

With no regular meet on the calendar this week, several Piranhas will shift their focus to the Highland Pentathlon. This unique competition challenges swimmers to race all five individual events – freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and the individual medley – testing their all-around skill and stamina in the pool.

Despite weather interruptions and scheduling changes, the Piranhas continue to make waves this season with strong performances and team spirit.

Looking forward to the week ahead, the Piranhas will have a friendly competition with the Red Bud Waverunners on June 25 at Red Bud.
