Man dies in crash at Waterloo Walmart

Firefighters assess the crash scene in the Waterloo Walmart parking lot early Friday morning.

The Waterloo Fire Department responded along with police and EMS personnel to the Waterloo Walmart back parking lot for an overturned vehicle with entrapment shortly before 6 a.m. Friday.

Waterloo police said a Dodge Ram truck driven by a man struck pallets at the southwest corner of the Walmart parking lot and overturned. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Emergency personnel cleared the crash scene shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Monroe County Coroner Bob Hill identified the deceased as 47-year-old Jason Helberg of East Carondelet. He was the sole occupant of the truck, which overturned after hitting numerous pallets, Hill said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Preliminary scene investigation conducted by Hill appears to show Helberg may have suffered a medical event prior to the crash.

An autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

Funeral arrangements for Helberg are pending at Leesman Funeral Home, Dupo.
