Michael J. Sager | Obituary

Michael John Sager, 75, of Dupo, died March 29, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Waterloo. He was born April 22, 1950, in St. Louis.

Mike retired after 42 years from the Terminal Railroad working as a clerk from 1968-2010.  

Mike gave back to his community having served as a Village of Dupo trustee, and he dedicated 28 years of serving Sugarloaf Township serving as Trustee from 1981-1987, Clerk from 1987-1999 and Township Supervisor from 1999-2009. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, spending time at the SAWS and his trips to Kentucky Lake and coaching baseball. He loved spending time with his grandkids and spending time with his buddies at Judy’s Corner.  Mike was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam.

Surviving are his son Bradley (Jessica) Sager; daughter Natalie (Billy) Steppig; grandchildren Amelia and Remi Sager and Hadley and Cooper Steppig; sister Kathy (Arthur) Sippo; along with nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Susan Marie Sager (nee Price) and his parents, John Sager Jr. and Dorothy Sager (nee Couch).

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. April 1 and 9-10 a.m. April 2 at Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo. 

A funeral service will follow visitation April 2 at the funeral home with  Jim  Jarvis officiating. 

Interment with military honors will be held in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.  

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, Chicago.
