It’s Lenten fish fry season

The VFW began Lenten meal service hours Friday with menu and carry-out orders available from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and cafeteria style and carry-out from 3:30 to 8 p.m. County restaurants and organizations like Waterloo Sportsman’s Club, voted the Republic-Times Best of 2013 for seafood during the Lenten season, will be serving their fish specialties with side orders and desserts every Friday during Lent.

At left, staff members of marketing communications agency Marketicity gather outside Merz on Main in Columbia after their first Lenten fish lunch. Marketicity’s “Cod Squad” is sampling a different location for fried fish every Friday during Lent. From March 7 through April 18, the “Cod Squad” will review locations based on main course and a variety of appetizers and side dishes. Reviews will be posted on Marketicity’s Facebook page.
