Hockey teams freeze out opponents

In recent Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association action, the Columbia Eagles posted a pair of recent victories. 

Columbia (6-3-2) won 4-3 on Monday against East Alton-Wood River. Jack Reuss continued his solid season with two goals and an assist for the Eagles. Rece Sanderson scored a goal and contributed two assists.

Behind a four-goal night from Reuss, the Eagles won 6-3 over Vianney on Thursday night in Fenton, Mo. The game was tied at 2-2 after two periods, but Columbia scored four times in the final frame. 

Sanderson scored a goal and dished out three assists.

Last Tuesday, the Eagles dropped a 7-0 decision to a tough O’Fallon squad in an MVCHA Class 2A matchup. 

Reuss has 23 goals and five assists already this season to lead the Eagles, who faced Highland on Tuesday night. 

Meanwhile, the Freeburg-Waterloo Raging Bulldogs sit atop the MVCHA Class 1A standings at 9-3.

The Raging ‘Dogs won 2-0 over Alton on Thursday, getting goals from Conner Blair and Aidan Banning. 

Logan Sherman posted a 10-save shutout in net. 

Sherman has a 1.58 goals against average and .912 save percentage this season for the Raging Bulldogs.

Blair has 15 goals and 11 assists to lead Freeburg-Waterloo in scoring so far this season. 

The Raging Bulldogs take on a tough Class 2A squad, Edwardsville, at 8:15 p.m. Thursday in Edwardsville’s new RP Lumber Center.

On Monday, Freeburg-Waterloo battles Bethalto at 7:30 p.m. in East Alton.
