Thursday field, brush fires in Monroe County

Monroe County fire departments responded to two separate outdoor burning calls early Thursday evening.

The Waterloo Fire Department responded shortly after 4:50 p.m. to a field fire in the area of 930 S. Library Street near Route 3.

At about 7:45 p.m., the Maeystown Fire Department responded to a unattended brush fire in the area of Kaskaskia Road at MM Road.

Winds were reported at about 20 miles per hour on Thursday afternoon. Residents are advised to refrain from outdoor burning during times of strong winds, because sparks or embers can blow into leaves or grass to cause fire dangers.
