Farming-related fires Monday afternoon

Two farming-related fires were reported at opposite ends of rural Monroe County late Monday afternoon.

At about 4 p.m., the Prairie du Rocher Fire Department responded to the report of a combine on fire near the Gerald Whalen farm on Stringtown Road south of Kaskaskia Road.

At about 4:15 p.m., the Hecker Fire Department was dispatched to 7742 Roscow Road for the report of a cornfield on fire.
