Eagles make all-state softball team
A 32-2 season understandably drew attention to the Columbia High School softball team this spring, which had four players named this week to the Illinois Coaches Association Class 3A All-State Team.
Heading the list of all-state Eagles was graduating senior Keeler van Breusegen on the first team. Senior catcher Chelsy Pena and junior infielder Lexi Touchette made the all-state second team. Senior infielder Calli Wibbenmeyer was selected to the third team.
A 32-game hitting streak was a major highlight of van Breusegen’s sensational season. The Bradley University commit ranked second in the St. Louis area with 16 doubles, fourth in the area with 18 stolen bases, and sixth in the area with 45 runs. She hit .461 with a .496 on base percentage and 32 RBIs.
Pena, who will play ball at Southeast Missouri State University, tied for third in the area with nine home runs, tied for fourth in RBIs with 46, and was fifth in the area with 46 runs. She hit .458 with a .515 on base percentage and an .856 slugging percentage for the Eagles.
Touchette tied for fourth in the area with eight home runs. She hit .464 with a .539 on base percentage, 14 doubles, 32 runs and 37 RBIs.
Wibbenmeyer, who will play at Rockhurst University, tied for third in the area in home runs with nine. She hit .402 with a .496 on base percentage, 39 RBIs and 39 runs.
