Bernell F. Bachelier | Obituary

Bernell F. Bachelier (nee Buettner), 93, of Waterloo, died Oct. 23, 2023, in Waterloo. She was born May 14, 1930, in Columbia.

She worked for over 20 years as the head cook at the Waterloo High School Unit No. 5. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren, working in her yard and worshipping the Lord at church. Bernell and her husband Ron also enjoyed dancing.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo for many years and prior to that St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbia, where she was baptized on June 20, 1930. She was then strengthened in her faith through confirmation on June 6, 1943.

She is survived by her children Brenda K. Schreder, Berneta J. Bachelier, Ronald R. (Cynthia) Bachelier and Richard D. (Keda) Bachelier; grandchildren Lisa (Barry) Greer, Sherri (Chris) Morris, Laura (Scott) Gross, Kelly Zellerman, Richard (Nicole) Bachelier, Andrea (Tom) Falls, Tiffany McNeill and Erika (Jen Norton) DeMoulin; and great-grandchildren Miranda (Aaron) Sandersfeld, Briana Stewart, Samantha (Angi) Smith, Abby (Jon) Grant, Hayden Morris, Carter Gross, Layla Gross, Stella Zellerman, Nora Zellerman, Molly McNeill, Konnor McNeill, Alexis Bachelier, Reese Bachelier, Jackson Bachelier, Brooke Bachelier, Liam Falls and Alex Falls; and great-great-grandchildren Sophia Kempfer and Maverick Grant and sister Lou-Ann Sheridan.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Hilda Buettner; husband Ronald L. Bachelier; grandson Brian J. Schreder; son-in-law Eugene Schreder; sisters Myrtle Pulcher, Verna Bachelier, Gladys Baumer; and brothers Harry Buettner, Harvey Buettner and Edward F. “Flip” Buettner.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Oct. 25 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo and 9 a..m. until time of service Oct. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

A funeral will follow at 10 a.m. at the church with Pastor Merritt Demski and Pastor Tony Troup officiating.

Interment will be at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to: Immanuel Lutheran Church – Waterloo; Hospice of Southern Illinois; or Oak Hill – Arbor Court.
