The Dupo High School baseball program is hoping to improve from a 2025 season that ended with a record of 4-17.

There are several new faces for the 2026 version of the baseball Tigers under head coach Evan Lawrence, so it’s a matter of putting in the work and playing together as one cohesive unit.

One returning player to build around is junior Brady Portell. He stole 16 bases and scored 15 runs last season.

Two newcomers who have already shown promise for Dupo in the early going this spring are freshman Shane Wells and junior Talon Simshauser.

Wells, who can play both corner infield positions as well as the outfield and also pitches, collected three hits for the Tigers in their season opener last week.

Simshauser, who was a key member of Dupo’s successful football squad this past fall, had two hits and scored three runs in the 2026 season opener.

In addition to Wells, other pitchers for Dupo include freshman lefty Matthew Groves and junior lefty Caiden Crowder, who also plays in the outfield.

Another player to watch this season for Dupo baseball is sophomore Evan Acord, who also plays football for the Tigers.

With such a small roster and very limited prior varsity experience, the Tigers may experience growing pains on the diamond this spring.
