Missing woman found alive following Tuesday search

Police, fire and emergency responders searched the far western portion of the county near the banks of the Mississippi River for a woman after a local man reported his fiancee missing early Tuesday afternoon.

Around 6:30 p.m, Monroe County Sheriff Dan Kelley said the woman was found alive in the area they had been searching most of Tuesday afternoon. She was transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis for undisclosed reasons.

The vehicle she was driving, a blue 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, was discovered but there were no signs of the missing woman. A St. Louis County Police Department helicopter and local K-9 unit joined law enforcement agencies in the search. The woman’s cell phone pinged off a tower just across the river in Pevely, Mo.

After 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Valmeyer, Columbia and Waterloo fire departments were dispatched to the area of Merrimac Road and Riechmann Road near the levee to assist in the search.
