Columbia Police

March 18

A 14-year-old Columbia boy was transported by ambulance to St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis after he was struck by a vehicle while walking west across Route 3 from Eagle Drive to Valmeyer Road around 7:40 p.m. The accident report states the boy had the walk sign, but may have taken too long to cross the intersection before traffic was given a green light. The driver of a southbound GMC Sierra, Robert Eschmann, 66, of Columbia, told police he had a green light  while traveling through the intersection, and did not see the boy walking across. No citations were issued.

March 19

Driving a Chevy Cavalier, Laurine Schroeder, 90, of Columbia, was attempting to turn onto northbound Route 3 from Hill Castle Road when the car came into the path of a southbound Peterbuilt tractor-trailer driven by Charles Gipson, 48, of Marissa, shortly before noon. Schroeder was transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis. She was cited for failure to yield turning left.

April 2

Ian R. Glaenzer, 20, of Columbia, was arrested for DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage, failure to signal and disobeying a stop sign on Bluff Road at Bottom Road.

April 3

An Oldsmobile driven by Emily Buechler, 18, of Columbia, was attempting to turn left from southbound Route 3 onto South Main when a northbound Peterbuilt truck driven by Adam O’Riley, 32, of Butler, Mo., struck the car in the right side rear around 10 p.m. A passenger in Buechler’s car, Eric Antrobus, 21, of Columbia, was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis. Buechler refused medical transport at the scene. Police have been unable to determine who was at fault in the crash due to conflicting driver statements.

April 4

Charles M. Colter, 28, of St. Louis, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant and for no seat belt on Frontage Road.

April 6

Donald N. Rhyne, 61, of Columbia, was arrested for DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage and no insurance on I-255 northbound at milepost 8.

April 7

Eric Meredith, 44, of St. Louis, was arrested for DUI on I-255 northbound at milepost 7.2.

Illinois State Police

April 6

Columbia police, fire and EMS assisted ISP with a two-car crash on I-255 northbound just east of the J.B. Bridge shortly after 1 a.m. A 1999 Cadillac Catera driven by Derek Sammelman, 31, of Columbia, struck the rear of a 2012 Chevy Cruze driven by Byron Burgess, 54, of Waterloo. Sammelman’s car hit the concrete barrier following the collision and caught on fire. Sammelman was transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center. He was arrested for DUI, improper lane usage, no insurance and driving while suspended.

Monore County Sheriff

April 3

Additional reports of unauthorized credit and debit card purchases stemming from the Schnucks computer glitch and other fraudulent means are under investigation. Residents are advised to check their bank accounts for suspicious recent purchases made in faraway states.

The theft of items including a honeywagon pump, combine sieve and hand pump hydrant from a shed near Kaskaskia Road and Bluff Road is under investigation.

April 4

Billy Kidd Stephens, 20, of Waterloo, and Jon Linnertz, 36, of Red Bud, were each arrested on warrants. Stephens was wanted for possession of meth precursors, while Linnertz was wanted for theft.

April 7

Joseph Adkins of Columbia was arrested on a Monroe County warrant.

Waterloo Police

April 7

Kyle D. Walker, 23, of Red Bud, was arrested for DUI, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia in the Rural King parking lot.
