A Waterloo man has been charged in St. Clair County in connection with two recent burglaries.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’sDepartment stated in a news release that it received information about two burglaries last month in which power tools were taken. The suspect was identified as Aaron S. Liefer, 29, of Waterloo.

Investigators discovered that Liefer was involved in a burglary to a barn at 6667 State Route 159 in New Athens, as well as a residential burglary at 2708 Old State Route 3 in Columbia. The property owner in the Columbia incident, Steve Wright, reported power tools valued at $1,600 missing from his residence.

Arrest warrants have been issued against Liefer for burglary and residential burglary for these incidents. A St. Clair County Judge has set Liefer’s bond at $150,000.

Investigators worked with members of the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southern Illinois during this investigation.

Earlier this month, Liefer was sentenced in Monroe County to two years probation and fined $345 plus court and assessment fees for possession of a controlled substance (heroin).
