A fatal crash occurred early Sunday afternoon on Route 3 just south of South Market Street in Waterloo.

Witness accounts from the scene indicate that a Geo Prizm was traveling northbound and had passed a vehicle before colliding head-on with a southbound 18-wheel grain hauler. The driver of the Prizm was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Waterloo Fire Department assisted Waterloo police, Monroe County EMS and the Monroe County Coroner’s Office at the scene.

Route 3 was closed in both directions for around five hours as crews handled the crash and cleared the scene.

Monroe County Coroner Vicki Koerber identified the crash victim Sunday evening as Bryan Taylor, 37, of Waterloo.

Visitation is set for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, and 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday, July 6, at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo. Funeral services take place 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
