Eagles, Bulldogs continue strong seasons

Columbia and Waterloo are not scheduled to face each other in boys soccer this season. That could soon change, as each team is competing in the Msgr. Larry Walsh Division of the CYC Tournament this week.

The teams will need to win in order to play each other. Each school is in a different pool. Columbia is in Pool A along with Fort Zumwalt North, Parkway West and Triad. Waterloo is in Pool C with St. Pius X, Belleville West and Clayton.

Waterloo beat St. Pius X at home, 4-0, on Monday. Kane Osterhage continued his dominant season with a hat trick and Jake Wagner also added a goal. They played Clayton on Tuesday at Kennedy High School.Ā  Waterloo is now 12-1.

Their most intriguing match-up in pool play comes on Thursday. Waterloo will get a rematch with Belleville West, the only team to beat the ā€˜Dogs this season. They play at 5:30 p.m. at Columbia High School.

Columbia, on the other hand,Ā  started pool play Tuesday night against Fort Zumwalt North. The team is 8-0-1 on the season. The Eagles play Parkway West tonight (Wednesday) at home.

The most likely scenario for each team to face each other would be Friday. The winner of Pool A plays the winner of Pool B at 8 p.m. at Soccer Park in Fenton.

There is another option. If either team where to come in second place and have the best second place record, they would win the wild card spot. That team plays the winner of Pool B at 6 p.m. on Friday at Soccer Park. They would both then have to win their semifinal games to meet in the championship at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Columbia is currently led in goals by Ryan Gudeman with 13; he also has seven assists. Sean Rickey leads the team in assists with nine and is second in goals with 12.

Starting goaltender Jon Kuebler has an 8-0-1 record. He has allowed one goal, and has a save percentage of .923. The team has only allowed two goals all season.

Waterloo is led by Kane Osterhage with 19 goals and nine assists. Ben Huels follows with 16 goals and six assists.
Trevor Coplin is the teamā€™s starting goalie, but has been battling an injury. Coplin has an 8-0 record and has only allowed three goals. Kyle Schaefer has seen significant time in net and has a 4-1 record.

Gibault suffered a 1-0 loss at Columbia last Tuesday. They played Tuesday night against Alton at Oerter Park. Gibault is 5-7 on the season.

Dalton Scace leads the team with nine goals. He also has three assists. Karson Huels has two goals and leads the team with five assists. Ben Mueth has scored five times and has three assists.

Trevor Davis is 5-6 in net, with 17 goals allowed and 65 saves.

Valmeyerā€™s soccer team bounced back this week. After losing 13-1 against Columbia last week, the Pirates defeated Carlyle, 2-1, on Monday. Easton Wallace scored both of the teamā€™s goals.

The team played Freeburg on Tuesday.

Overall, the Pirates are 4-7.

Wallace leads the team with five goals. He also has two assists, which is tied with Trent Larson.

Andrew Whipple has been in net for each game. He has 125 saves on the season and allowed 44 goals. His save percentage is at .740.
