Columbia, Gibault girls post Thursday night wins

It was a victorious evening of high school basketball for area girls teams on Thursday. Both Columbia and Gibault posted road wins.

The Eagles (6-0) defeated Wesclin (2-6), 48-38. Columbia senior forward Savannah Wittenbrink led the team with 17 points and 10 rebounds; fellow classmate and Eagle point guard Calli Germain posted 11 points and six assists.

Meanwhile, the Gibault Lady Hawks (4-2) beat New Athens (4-2), 44-34. Gibault upperclassmen Kendra Davis and Alyssa Ramage led the Hawks with 12 points. Kelly Kapp and Lauren Prader each had nine points on the night.

On the down side, the Waterloo High School girls basketball team (2-3) fell to Civic Memorial (4-3) on the road, 55-25. The Red Bud girls (2-3) also fell on the road, losing 70-48 to Carlyle (7-1). The Dupo girls (0-4) fell to Marissa (2-2), 53-23.

Valmeyer plays at Metro East Lutheran on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
