Alert issued on Smithton insurance agent

In February, the Illinois Department of Insurance received notification that Smithton insurance agent Tina Ledbetter of T&J’s Insurance Agency was continuing to act as an insurance producer although her license had been revoked in November.

A consumer alert issued by the department urged all those who may have conducted business with Ledbetter through the agency to seek information about their current insurance coverage. The department is also advising consumers to contact local law enforcement and the Attorney General’s office to file complaints.

Consumers in need of information or assistance should call 1-866-445-5364.

Ledbetter had been licensed to sell life, health, fire and casualty insurance since 2003. T&J Insurance Agency had been a licensed business entity since 2004.

Her licenses were revoked as a result of an investigation, which revealed that Ledbetter failed to forward premiums to an insurer and failed to facilitate and aid in an investigation, according to a November disciplinary report issued by the department.

The revocation order against Ledbetter included a $10,000 civil penalty.
