Waterloo teen arrested in ‘peeping Tom’ incident

The Waterloo Police Department would like anyone with information related to an alleged “peeping Tom” incident that occurred early Wednesday morning to contact them.

At 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police arrested a 19-year-old Waterloo man for disorderly conduct after he was allegedly caught looking into a child’s bedroom window from outside a home in the 200 block of Osterhage Drive.

The man, identifed as Nicholas C. Devan, posted bond and has been released from the Monroe County Jail on the misdemeanor charge. The child’s family had let their dog out in the morning and when it started barking, the father looked outside and saw Devan peering into his child’s window, Trantham said. The father approached Devan and held him until police arrived.

“He didn’t try to run or anything,” Trantham said of Devan, adding that “this is not normal behavior. We’re not going to stand for it.”

Waterloo police would like to hear from anyone in the area of this occurrence if they suspect someone has recently been peeking in windows in their neighborhood.

“We would also encourage everyone to call in suspicious activity to the police so the situation can be checked,” Trantham said.

The number to reach Waterloo police is 939-3377.
