The Columbia police and fire departments responded to Red Roof Liquor & Lottery at 301 Southport Drive shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a vehicle striking the building.

The driver of a 2015 Ford four-door car told police the brakes failed on the vehicle and it struck an awning support column.

There were no injuries, but visible damage to the column was observed.
