Vehicle crash near YMCA

Police, fire and ambulance personnel responded shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday to a crash involving a car and a tractorĀ pulling a grain wagon on Route 3 northbound near the YMCA south of Columbia.

Initial reports are a white car with Illinois plates drove into the rear of the grain wagon after first swerving to avoid a combine driving in the right lane. All of the farm implements involved had the proper reflective signage and lighting, police said.

The driver of the car was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No other injuries were reported. Traffic was backed up between Columbia and Waterloo as a result of the crash, but the accident was cleared by about 8:30 p.m.
