Waterloo police and fire personnel joined Monroe County EMS in responding about 3:15 p.m. Monday to a single vehicle crash with injury on Route 156 near Hartman curve just east of Waterloo.

Krysten Greer, a 17-year-old student at Career Center of Southern Illinois, was ejected about 30 feet from the vehicle into a wooded area during the crash, but she was reported to be conscious and breathing at the scene and complaining of back pain. The vehicle, described as a Honda van with extensive damage, came to rest in a grassy area off the roadway.

A Survival Flight medical helicopter was requested for emergency transport, landing at the Monroe County ambulance garage. Greer was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital for treatment of a broken pelvis and other injuries.
