Robbers sentenced last week

Two of five teens arrested for armed robbery at a Columbia park in November were sentenced last week.

Paul M. West, 17, of Millstadt, was sentenced to 60 days in county jail, placed on four years probation, ordered to pay $1,415 in court costs and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service on a reduced charge of Class 2 felony robbery.

Tyler J. Kitchell, 15, of Millstadt, was sentenced to 61 days in jail with credit for 61 days served, placed on four years probation, ordered to pay $430 and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service on the same reduced charge. All weapons seized by police following the crime, including a 40 caliber Smith & Wesson firearm, were ordered confiscated and destroyed.

The incident occurred Nov. 9 at Meadowridge Park in Columbia, during which a bong was taken from a young man.

Charges against Colin Mortin, 17, Benjamin Caldwell, 16,  and Ryan Aukema, 16, for their roles in the incident are still pending. They were all charged as adults.
