Raging Bulldogs attack the net

Cohin Reynolds

The Freeburg-Waterloo Raging Bulldogs got back to their winning ways last week, while the Columbia Eagles hit a slight rough patch on the ice.

The Raging Bulldogs (12-8) are in first place in the Varsity 1A division of the Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association standings, but had suffered three straight losses entering last Tuesday’s tilt against East Alton-Wood River.

Thanks to a hat trick from Cohin Reynolds, two goals and an assist from Caiden Anderson, and four assists from Conner Blair, Freeburg-Waterloo won 6-2.

Blair leads the Raging Bulldogs with 18 goals and 16 assists this season, which ranks ninth in the MVCHA in scoring.

Freeburg-Waterloo battled Triad on Tuesday, falling 6-5, then faces East Alton-Wood River again this Thursday night in Granite City before tangling with Highland this coming Monday night in Granite City.

Columbia (11-6-3) dropped two games last week. The Eagles are in fifth place in the MVCHA’s Varsity 2A standings.

Last Tuesday, the Eagles dropped a 4-3 contest to Belleville despite leading 3-2 after two periods. Rece Sanderson recorded a goal and an assist for Columbia.

On Thursday, Columbia lost 5-1 to undefeated Edwardsville.

Jack Reuss leads the Eagles in scoring this season with 32 goals and 16 assists, which ranks among the MVCHA scoring leaders.
