R-T All-Local Boys Basketball Team

Gibault’s Brian Deterding led all local players with a 14.2 points per game average this season.

Although there were no conference or regional titles to show for it, the 2014-15 boys basketball season featured quality local teams with promising hoops talent.

The Gibault Hawks and Columbia Eagles are especially excited about the future, as they lose very few seniors to graduation from their squads.

Here is the Republic-Times All-Local Boys Basketball Team for the 2014-15 season, featuring standout players from Columbia, Waterloo, Gibault, Valmeyer and Dupo high schools:

FIRST TEAM
Brian Deterding (Gibault): Deterding led all local hoopsters with a 14.2 points per game average. He also shot 72 percent from the free throw line and averaged more than seven rebounds per game for the Hawks.

Jonathan Holmes (Columbia): Holmes came on strong this season, winning the Freeburg Holiday Tournament MVP and leading the Eagles in scoring this season at 13.4 points per game. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds per game.

Rick Wiegand (Waterloo): A tremendous athlete who also excelled on the football field this past fall, Wiegand averaged 12 points per game his senior season for the Bulldogs.

Trevor Davis (Gibault): A super sophomore, Davis hit several clutch shots at the end of games this season for the Hawks, helping to earn him All-State honorable mention status. He averaged 13.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and led the team in blocks with 22.

Ryan Unterseh (Valmeyer): Unterseh was a scoring machine for the Pirates, averaging 13.2 points per game and more than five rebounds per game. He also advanced to the state three-point shooting contest.

SECOND TEAM
Korbin Farmer (Columbia): Farmer averaged 12.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and two blocks per game for the Eagles.

Jacob Rueter (Gibault): Rueter was an assist machine, dishing out seven dimes per contest while scoring nearly 11 points per game. He also shot 73 percent from the free throw line.

Zach Williams (Valmeyer): Williams scored 12.4 points per game and shot 45 percent from three-point range for the Pirates.

Ryan Gudeman (Columbia): Gudeman put up strong all-around numbers, averaging 9.6 points, 3.6 assists and two steals per game.

Drew Huebner (Columbia): Huebner was a strong inside presence for the Eagles, averaging nine points and seven rebounds per game.

HONORABLE MENTION
Ryan Aycock (Waterloo), Max Schrader (Waterloo), Eric Smith (Valmeyer), Tony Cozart (Dupo), Joey Mirabal (Dupo).
