Paraglider injured near Valmeyer

Emergency personnel responded about 5:10 p.m. Thursday to a report of an injured paraglider in a wheat field west of a residence in the 7300 block of Levee Road northwest of Valmeyer.

Responding agencies included the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe County EMS and Valmeyer Fire Department.

Police said the paraglider, 57-year-old Timothy Brown, reached back to activate a strobe light while gliding when his right mitten got caught in the propeller. This resulted in multiple fingers on his right hand being severed.

Despite the injury, the glider was able to stop the engine and descent to the ground without crashing.

He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County.
