Murder charge for Mamino

Elyse Mamino

The woman convicted of attempted murder in Monroe County for trying to drown her newborn daughter in a toilet in November 2008 was charged Friday in St. Clair County for the 2007 murder of another baby in her Belleville home.

Belleville police discovered the remains of a newborn child in the residence of Elyse Mamino during an investigation initiated by Columbia police following the toilet drowning incident. Mamino was sentenced to six years in prison for the Columbia incident, and was scheduled to be released Sunday.

She was arraigned Friday on the new murder charge and is in custody at the St. Clair County Jail on $1 million bond.
