Mon-Clair season underway

The Mon-Clair League opened its 2025 baseball season with all six teams in action on Sunday.

Last year’s playoff champion Millstadt Green Machine opened with a doubleheader sweep of the Waterloo Buds. Both games had outcomes of 3-2. 

In game one, Millstadt finally emerged victorious in nine innings. Jakob Koehn picked up the pitching win in relief. The Buds were held to just three hits.

In game two, Millstadt plated two runs in the sixth inning to pull out the win. Koehn had a hit and two RBIs for the Green Machine. 

In Valmeyer, the Lakers split a Sunday doubleheader with the Belleville Rockies. 

In game one, the Lakers won by the score of 3-2 after plating the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Cole Juelfs had three hits for Valmeyer. Jevon Boyd drove in both runs for the Rockies.

In game two, Belleville won 6-4 after scoring twice in the sixth inning to break a tie. Luke Isaacs led the Rockies with three RBIs. Kameron Hanvey was the top hitter for the Lakers, collecting three hits and two RBIs.

Mon-Clair baseball continues this Sunday with games in Waterloo and Millstadt.

The Buds play host to the St. Louis Spikes at SPPS Field with seven-inning games at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. 

The Green Machine will host Valmeyer for a Sunday twinbill at Tuffy Mueth Field.
